Services

What We Do

From initial recording through to final master, we offer a complete audio production service tailored to your creative vision.

Capture every nuance

Music & Band Recording

Every record starts with the performance. Our live room is tuned to bring out the character of drums, guitars, bass, keys, brass, strings, and vocals, with variable acoustics so a kit can sound tight and controlled or open and roomy depending on the record you are making. Clear sightlines and dialed-in headphone mixes keep the whole band locked in and playing to each other.

The control room runs on high-end microphones, preamps, and converters, so what lands on the multitrack is a true, detailed capture of the source. We track to a click or free, comp takes as we go, and keep the session organised and labelled so the mix stage is fast and painless. You are welcome to sit in and guide the sound, or trust the engineer to run the room while you focus on playing.

We record everything from a single acoustic guitar and vocal through to full live bands tracking together in the room. Sessions can be fully engineered, or booked as a dry hire if you bring your own engineer. Either way you get a session file that is clean, well gain-staged, and ready for our mixing and mastering stage or for export to your own mixer.

The voice, front and centre

Vocal Recording & Production

The vocal is the part listeners connect with, so it deserves its own attention. We build a signal chain around your voice and the song, choosing the microphone, preamp, and compression that flatter your tone and sit right in the track. The booth and live room are treated so you hear yourself clearly and can perform without fighting the room.

Recording is only half of vocal production. We comp the best moments across takes, tune where the song calls for it, time-align stacks, and build harmonies and doubles so the final vocal feels intentional and polished. Whether you want a raw, upfront lead or a wall of produced stacks, we shape the vocal to the record.

This service suits lead vocalists, rappers, topliners, and backing singers across every genre. We work fast and keep the energy up so you stay in the performance, and we deliver a comped, edited, and produced vocal ready to drop into the mix.

From idea to finished record

Music Production & Beatmaking

Production is where a song is built. Bring a voice memo, a rough demo, a beat, or nothing but an idea, and we develop it into a finished record. That means writing or refining the beat and chords, choosing sounds, arranging the sections, and playing or programming the instrumentation that makes the track move.

Andrew Nolan produces across genres and has worked with international artists, blending programmed production with live instrumentation recorded in the room. We can lean fully in-the-box for electronic and hip hop records, or combine live drums, guitars, bass, keys, and strings with programmed elements for a hybrid sound. The goal is always the record that serves the song, not a template.

Production runs alongside recording and vocal production, so a session can move from an idea to a tracked, produced, and arranged song in a focused block of time. We deliver a produced session ready for mixing, or take it all the way through our mixing and mastering stage to a finished master.

  • Cross-genre production experience
  • Hybrid live and programmed production
  • In-house session musicians available

Where a recording becomes a song

Mixing

Mixing is where all the parts become a song. We balance levels, carve space with EQ, control dynamics, place elements in a stereo field, and add depth and effects so every element is heard and the record moves. A great mix serves the emotion of the song first and the technical polish second.

We mix in a calibrated control room on reference-grade monitoring, cross-checked on multiple systems so the mix translates from earbuds to car speakers to club systems. Sessions can be in person, where you sit alongside the engineer and give real-time direction, or remote, where you send stems and we deliver mixes and revisions online. Interstate and international clients work with us remotely all the time.

We mix across every genre, from raw punk and heavy metal through to polished pop, hip hop, electronic, acoustic, and film and media. Revisions are part of the process, so we refine the mix against your notes until it is right, then hand off to mastering to finish the record.

The final polish before release

Mastering

Mastering is the final creative and technical step before your music reaches listeners. It takes your finished mix and optimises the overall tone, loudness, dynamics, and stereo image so the record sounds its best everywhere and holds up next to commercial releases. On an album or EP it also makes every track feel like part of one cohesive body of work.

We master for each delivery format on its own terms. Streaming masters are optimised for loudness normalisation on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube so your record sounds punchy and clean without being crushed. Vinyl masters account for the physical limits of the format. CD, broadcast, and sync masters are delivered to the required specifications. Stem mastering is available when a mix needs finer control at the final stage.

You receive release-ready masters in the formats you need, with correct metadata and, for albums, consistent spacing and levels across the tracklist. If we also mixed the record, mastering is a natural continuation. If you are bringing a mix from elsewhere, we treat it with fresh ears and reference it carefully before we commit.

  • Format-specific masters
  • Streaming loudness optimisation
  • Vinyl and CD delivery

Studio-grade results from anywhere

Remote Mixing & Mastering

You do not need to be in Brisbane to work with us. Remote mixing and mastering is a core part of what we do, serving artists across Australia and overseas. You record wherever you like, send us your stems, and we mix and master in our calibrated room, delivering results that stand next to any release.

The workflow is built to be simple and clear. We provide a short guide for exporting stems so your files arrive ready to work. You receive private listening links for each stage, leave timestamped notes, and we revise until the mix and master are right. Communication is direct, so remote projects feel as collaborative as being in the room.

This service suits independent artists, producers, and bands who track at home or in other studios but want a professional mix and master to finish the record. It is also ideal for interstate and international clients who want our sound without the travel. Files are delivered in every format you need for release.

Spatial mixes that survive real rooms

Dolby Atmos Music Mixing & Sonos Playback Checking

Dolby Atmos Music is not "Sonos recording". Sonos is one of the playback environments listeners use after the release is live. The work happens in the mix and master: deciding what stays anchored, what moves into the height field, how vocals hold focus, how low end stays solid, and how the stereo master and spatial version feel like the same record. We help artists create an Atmos version that adds space and depth without turning the song into a demo of effects.

A good Atmos music mix starts with arrangement judgment. Some parts belong in the front image because they carry the song. Other parts can wrap around the listener, sit above the bed, or become objects that create movement and scale. We explain 7.1.4 bed and object thinking in plain English, then make choices that fit the track. Drums, bass, lead vocal, and key hooks need weight and clarity; ambience, backing vocals, percussion, synths, guitars, strings, and ear-candy can often open into the room. The aim is immersion that still feels musical on a normal play-through.

Playback translation is the niche most artists miss. A spatial mix may feel huge on headphones but collapse on a soundbar, or feel exciting on Sonos but lose the vocal fold-down. We check the mix through binaural headphone rendering, stereo fold-down, and real consumer playback thinking, with Sonos Era 300, Sonos Arc, Arc Ultra, Beam Gen 2, and Sonos Ace named in the brief where they matter to the listener. That does not mean every Sonos device plays the same Atmos stream in the same way. It means the mix is built with actual listener behaviour in mind, not only the ideal studio render.

Delivery depends on the release path. For many independent artists, the practical goal is a stereo master plus a spatial mix prepared for Apple Music Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos Music delivery through the chosen distributor. For label, sync, or post clients, deliverables may include stems, reference exports, print notes, and a format-specific handoff pack. ADM/BWF can be discussed at booking if your distributor asks for it; we confirm format support before taking on that deliverable so the scope stays honest.

This service works locally in Brisbane or remotely. You can bring a finished stereo mix, stems from another mixer, or a project we have already mixed and mastered at Animus. If the production was built with spatial in mind, we can create a deeper Atmos version. If it was not, we can still make smart choices from the available stems and advise where new elements, backing vocals, pads, returns, or effects prints would help the spatial version feel intentional.

Voices that connect

Voiceover Recording & Direction

Voiceover is a performance, not just a read. We provide a full voiceover environment: an acoustically isolated booth, broadcast-quality microphones and preamps, real-time direction, and clean editing and processing. The result is voiceover that is clear, consistent, and cast to the brief.

Andrew Nolan brings extensive voice direction experience, having facilitated voiceover masterclasses for organisations including Voicebooth and Stagemilk. That coaching background shows in every session. We know how to draw the right performance from a voice artist, adjust pace and tone to the brief, and keep multiple reads consistent across a long script.

We cover commercial reads, corporate narration, e-learning, explainer and character voices, IVR and phone systems, and documentary narration. Remote directed sessions run over Source Connect and similar links so agencies, producers, and clients can direct talent from anywhere. Files are delivered broadcast-ready in any format, with fast turnaround for deadline work.

Narration that keeps listeners in the story

Audiobook Production

Audiobooks live or die on consistency and clarity across many hours of listening. We produce audiobooks end to end: directed narration in an isolated booth, careful editing, proofing against the manuscript, and mastering to the technical standards of ACX, Audible, and other platforms. The finished product keeps listeners inside the story from the first chapter to the last.

Andrew Nolan has audiobook and voiceover credits with Audible and brings a director-first approach to narration. We help narrators pace long-form reads, keep character voices consistent, and maintain tone across sessions recorded on different days. For authors narrating their own work, we guide the performance so the book sounds professional.

Every deliverable meets platform requirements: per-chapter files, correct room tone, noise floor, peak, and RMS levels, opening and closing credits, and retail sample. We handle pickups and corrections cleanly so the manuscript and audio match. The result passes technical review and sounds like a commercial release.

  • Isolated, quiet recording booth
  • ACX and platform-compliant delivery
  • Consistency across long-form reads
  • Narration direction and coaching
  • Manuscript proofing

Sound that keeps people listening

Podcast Production

Audio quality is what separates a podcast people finish from one they switch off. We produce podcasts end to end, from a comfortable multi-host studio recording through to edited, mastered, and distribution-ready episodes. You focus on the conversation and we handle the sound.

The studio seats multiple hosts and guests, each on their own microphone and headphone mix, in a relaxed conversational setup. Remote guests connect over high-quality links so every voice sits consistently in the final episode. We record isolated tracks per participant, which gives full control at the editing stage.

Post-production covers noise reduction, level matching, editing for pace and content, intro and outro production, music beds, and export in podcast-ready formats. We can also help with show artwork, episode notes, and setting up your distribution platform so launching or leveling up your show is straightforward.

Sonic storytelling for screen

Sound Design & Audio Post

Sound design is the part of a production the audience feels without noticing. We create sonic worlds for film, television, advertising, games, and digital content, from subtle ambient textures to dramatic impact effects, and finish the audio so it meets the technical spec of any platform.

Our audio post covers the full chain: dialogue editing and cleanup, ADR, foley recording and editing, sound effects design, ambience and soundscape creation, and the final mix. We work closely with directors and editors so every sonic element serves the story and the picture, and we deliver to broadcast and streaming loudness standards.

The team has credits on projects for Disney, Amazon, and Audible, so we understand the creative and technical demands of professional media work. Whether you need a full soundscape for a short film, ADR for a scene, or a broadcast-ready final mix, we deliver audio that lifts the picture and clears technical review.

Tight, clean, and in tune

Audio Editing & Vocal Tuning

Great mixes start with clean, tight source material. This service covers the detailed editing work that gets tracks mix-ready: comping the best takes, correcting pitch and timing, aligning stacks and doubles, tightening drums and rhythm parts, and cleaning noise, breaths, and clicks.

Vocal tuning is done to the style of the song. For most records that means transparent correction you cannot hear, keeping the character of the performance while fixing the moments that pull focus. For genres that use tuning as an effect we can push it as far as the track needs. Timing and alignment work makes stacks lock together and rhythm sections sit tight.

We also handle audio repair and restoration, reducing noise, removing clicks and hum, and rescuing usable performances from imperfect recordings. You can book editing and tuning on its own, as prep before a mix, or bundled with our mixing service so the whole chain is handled in one place.

What's Included

  • Natural or stylised tuning
  • Precise timing and alignment
  • Drum and rhythm editing
  • Noise and click repair
  • Standalone or pre-mix service
  • In-person or online

The room is yours

Studio Hire & Dry Hire

Sometimes you just need a great room. Studio hire gives producers, engineers, and artists access to our acoustically treated spaces and high-end gear on their own terms. Book the live room, control room, production suite, or voiceover booth by the hour or day, with an engineer or as a self-operated dry hire.

Dry hire suits engineers and producers who bring their own workflow and want a professional, quiet, well-equipped space to work in. You get the rooms, monitoring, microphones, preamps, and headphone systems, set up and ready to go. For clients who want support without full engineering, we can provide a tech to help with setup and patching.

The studio also works well for rehearsals with recording, content and video shoots that need clean audio, writing sessions, and voiceover self-recording. Whatever you are working on, you get a comfortable, inspiring environment built for sound, without paying for services you do not need.

What's Included

  • Acoustically treated rooms
  • High-end shared equipment
  • Self-operated or supported
  • Hourly and daily booking
  • Quiet, professional environment
  • Comfortable artist lounge

The right players on your record

Session Musicians & Re-amping

Programmed parts get you far, but real players bring feel that is hard to fake. We connect your project with session musicians for drums, guitars, bass, keys, strings, and more, played to your track in the room. Andrew can also play many parts himself as part of a production session, so you can add human performances without booking a full band.

Re-amping gives you tone options at the mix stage. By recording a clean DI of guitar or bass during tracking, we can later send that signal back out through real amplifiers and cabinets in the room, capturing new tones long after the performance. It means you can commit to a great take and still keep your options open for the sound.

This service pairs with recording and production, whether you need one part added to finish an arrangement or a full rhythm section played on your song. We arrange the parts with you, cast the right players, and capture performances that lift the record.

What's Included

  • Network of session players
  • Producer-played instrumentation
  • Re-amping for tone options
  • Arrangement and casting help
